DESCRIPTION

Ninety years. Ninety pens.

On 5th March 1936, test pilot Captain Joseph "Mutt" Summers lifted the prototype Supermarine Spitfire, K5054, from the grass at Eastleigh Aerodrome in Hampshire. What followed would change the course of history. Designed by R.J. Mitchell, powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and instantly recognisable by its elliptical wing, the Spitfire became the aircraft that helped win the Battle of Britain and is a lasting symbol of great British engineering. More than 20,000 were built between 1938 and 1948.

To mark the 90th anniversary of that maiden flight, Conway Stewart has created The Spitfire Pen: a limited edition of just 90, each one a tribute to the aircraft and the ingenuity behind it.

The pen is made in Spitfire Blue with sterling silver fittings, bracketed by light blue tassie and barrel end to give that classical Conway Stewart air. A sterling silver button set into the top of the cap carries the unmistakable outline of the Spitfire in flight. The wide sterling silver cap band is stamped with British Hallmarks to confirm its quality and authenticity, and a leaflet explaining the history of British Hallmarking is included with every pen.

Each pen is individually numbered and engraved on the barrel: "The Spitfire Pen, Limited Edition (#)/90, Made in England."

All fountain pens are fitted with 18ct gold Conway Stewart nibs, acclaimed by our customers for their smooth-as-butter writing experience. Available in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium or Broad widths, in a 2-tone finish. The Rollerball is available with a choice of blue or black ink in Fine or Medium refill.

Each pen is housed in an original Conway Stewart black leatherette presentation box, which doubles as an elegant desk display, and comes complete with Certificate of Authenticity detailing the edition number, Conway Stewart User Guide, and a special anti-tarnish polishing cloth to keep your pen in sparkling condition.

Available as a Fountain Pen or Rollerball
